Welcome to Metals Testing Company, your expert resource for Nondestructive Testing Services (NDT) and associated chemical processing. We are a Nadcap approved Special Processor, primarily inspecting critical rotating parts for Aerospace, Defense, and Power Generation industries.
Our signature services are Blue Etch Anodize (BEA) and Ultrasonic (UT) C-Scan.
Although we are an integral part of advanced industries, you will be pleasantly surprised at our very affordable pricing, a result of our highly productive workforce.
Since its formation in 1962, Metals Testing Company (MTC) has been providing high quality facility/laboratory based Nondestructive Testing Services for both commercial and military applications. Markets that we serve range from commercial and military aircraft and aerospace to power generation and medical industries. No job is too large or too small to accommodate.
In 1980, MTC was sold and retained its name via Delisle Inc doing business as (dba) Metals Testing Company. That same family based owner and leadership continued through 2017. In 2018, MTC is being acquired by Element, see Element news for up to date details.
With a workforce of approximately 70 people, we process over 125 jobs per day, each job consisting of 1 or hundreds pieces of a given part number. In the last 8 years, we have processed over 26,000 active part numbers!
We are an independent inspection facility that has amassed the following unique capabilities that are at our customers’ disposal:
One-Stop NDT Service
We have the complete range of in-house capabilities from metal etch to FPI, MPI, and C-Scan UT. Once parts are delivered to our facility for NDT services, they stay at our facility the entire time as opposed to being sent out to accomplish an intermediary NDT step.
For example: Our “Triple Play” of services: UT, Etch & FPI for sonic shape forgings.
Hand-in-hand with being able to accomplish everything in-house, we eliminate intermediate transit time loss as well as dependence on a third party to meet critical schedules. We are staffed and equipped to handle your emergencies. We also have a single point decision maker that can make schedule promises and immediately implement them.
Blue Etch Anodize
One of our technology strengths is a complete in-house Blue Etch Anodize capability to serve the demands of the titanium industry. With regard to aircraft engine manufacturers, we are one of the few approved independent laboratories in the world that is certified to perform BEA inspections.
Complex Contour Following C-Scan UT Imaging
Another unique technological advantage we have is an in-house developed complex contour following motion control system associated with our UT immersion tanks. This capability has been integrated with an IntraSpect UT advanced C-Scan imaging system. It resulted in the first system in the world capable and approved to inspect advanced fan blade bond lines outside the walls of the engine OEM.
Back in 1990, we moved into a new 12,000 ft2 facility – custom designed and built to specifically meet the needs of our NDT laboratory inspection service business. Since that time, we have grown and expanded three times to become a 38,500 ft2 (3,600 m2) facility.
Our in-house capabilities include the following Nondestructive Testing (NDT) technologies:
Immersion & Contact Ultrasonics (UT)
Equipped with state-of-the-art digital equipment, our immersion UT capabilities are constantly applied to inspect critical aerospace related rotating parts, welds, and brazes. We have also invested in C-Scan imaging equipment that can provide C, B and A-Scan views for RF and video recorded data for both immersion and contact UT. Automated contact UT C-Scan systems are typically used to inspect complex geometry composite parts such spars, tip caps, splice caps, winglets and torque tubes.
Chemical Etching & Etch Anodizing
We have one of the most updated and fully equipped “acid room” in the US to perform numerous NDT and cleaning operations. Our third facility expansion increased our etch capacity by a factor of 4. We are ready for the aerospace ramps in both commercial and military aircraft.
Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI or PT)
Where applicable, our FPI capability is further enhanced by on-site metal etching as a pre-cleaning process. Defects down to .005” can be found with our standard FPI.
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI or MT)
Lastly, we also have an extensive capability for MPI, including borescope inspections.
Certifications & Approvals
We are a Nadcap approved inspection laboratory since 1992. We also hold an FAA Air Agency (a.k.a., Repair Station) Certificate for providing NDE services. We are on the approved supplier lists for various Fortune 500 industrial customers including the aerospace engine Primes.
