FAQ’s for Quality

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for the topic of Quality:

Q1 – Is MTC AS9001 or ISO compliant and/or certified?

A1 – Nadcap AC7004 is the aerospace industry standard QMS requirement for special processes. It represents compliance to AS9100 with exclusion of elements that do not pertain such as Design Control, etc. As AS9100 encompasses all the elements of ISO plus additional requirements specific to the aerospace industry it is considered more stringent than ISO.

MTC has done a cost analysis for becoming AS9100 certified however the aerospace primes require AC7004 certification for special processes therefore we would have to maintain both certifications to perform the core processes of this business. As such, it was shown that there would be a significantly high front end cost as well as recurring costs to add another certification with no significant benefit in terms of business volume given our current core business.

Q2 – Is MTC’s AC7004 accredited Quality System accepted beyond the aerospace industry?

A2 – AC7004 certification has been accepted by customers in the automotive, medical and power generation industries once they have reviewed the requirements and compared them to those of their QMS with consideration that all processes performed at MTC are NDT or Etch inspection thus eliminating significant portions of the QMS documents as not applicable.
